Positive volition toward Bible Doctrine is very important for the believer who wants to find God’s plan and purpose for his life and to have fellowship with God. The Lord has provided everything needed to fulfill the believer’s desire to get to know Him, and those grace provisions will enable the believer to receive and to perceive THE TRUTH, which is Bible Doctrine
God has provided the mechanics of inspiration for the formation and preservation of the completed canon of scripture. He inspired certain men in both the Old Testament and New Testament days to write down exactly what was in His mind. When the canon was completed, the finished product contained the 66 books we call the Bible.
Inside God’s pre-designed plan, the Holy Spirit, our true mentor/teacher, enables believers to understand the mechanics or execution of that plan. Of course, the unbeliever cannot understand the things of God, because he is spiritually dead.
Why do you seem to have an easier time understanding the things of God than another believer might have? It’s not because you have a higher I.Q. or a better education, but when you are in fellowship with God and are living inside His plan for your life, you will have the ability to learn Bible Doctrine through the teaching ministry of God the Holy Spirit.
God has a special plan for Church-Age believers, the Royal Family of God, which does not necessarily involve affiliation with any denomination. God’s plan for a right pastor/teacher for the believer with positive volition … one who has been prepared to correctly feed his flock so that they may grow up spiritually. Rebound (naming our known sins to God the Father and being restored to fellowship with Him) is necessary for learning, and it results in being filled with the Holy Spirit so that we are teachable.
The first thing a new believer should do is set aside time every day to sit down and learn what God’s plan is all about … he should NOT sign up for special service in a local church. The local church should be a classroom where believers can gather together for the sole purpose of learning God’s Word, not to stimulate emotions. Emotions have no thought, reason or discernment. We must have the mind of Christ dwelling within the thinking part of our soul in order to please the Lord.
There is no such thing as a self-taught Christian or one who can stay at home and learn the Bible for himself, so we must learn from a prepared man who has the gift of pastor/teacher. We may not have a local assembly that can fulfill this pre-requisite, so we may have to get the teaching from technology such as audio tapes, video, C/D, internet, etc., but Bible Doctrine must be heard on a consistent basis to provide spiritual growth.
Worship is academic, so we have to learn and know God’s Word in order to function properly in His plan and purpose for our lives. The believer must first hear, then metabolize what he believes and then apply the doctrine to every problem or testing that will occur during his lifetime. Knowledge (gnosis) alone will not help us mature, but it is metabolizing or believing what is taught that will give us understanding and wisdom (epignosis). Only then will we be able to apply God’s Word to situations we face.
Positive volition is a gift from God … not something for which you or I can take credit. It is a driving desire which enables a believer to overcome all the obstacles in life and then center his life around learning Bible Doctrine. When we do, God will increase our yearning and desire for truth.
Without an in-depth knowledge of the Word of God, there is no possible way we can understand the spiritual life and why we have been created for His glory. God knows we need His help, and if we don’t have His provisions we will never understand things like the Angelic Conflict and the Mystery Doctrine of the Church Age.
Does a believer in this Church Age find God’s plan for his life in the Old Testament scriptures from things like the Ten Commandments? No! They find it in the mystery doctrine of the Church Age. Why is it called a mystery? Because the Old Testament saints knew nothing about it! The Church Age is a period of time (a dispensation) during which believers can utilize the divine power given at the moment of salvation and have the ability to learn Bible Doctrine which has been hidden from previous dispensations. We must become a technical student of the Word of God and make Bible Doctrine our number one priority. If not, we will lose rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
Every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ has a destiny, and our attitude toward life will change as we begin to learn about that destiny. We will realize that our life has meaning, purpose and definition based upon eternity rather upon what happens today.
Our brain is like a computer that needs to be programmed. It will either be programmed by Divine Viewpoint or by human viewpoint (Satanic viewpoint) … there is no in-between. If we have negative volition toward God’s viewpoint, we will be positive toward the world’s viewpoint.
The Church Age believer must realize that he possesses fabulous advantages, but he lacks within himself the power to advance spiritually. God does all the work when you express positive volition toward His Word. Positive volition is never automatic. Any believer at any time, in any stage of spiritual growth can become dull of hearing. It happened to the great apostle Paul … it happened to Moses … and it happened to David. All three of those great men of faith were in spiritual maturity. Spiritual growth in the life of any believer at any time can be suppressed by arrogance, by emotionalism, by the hardness of the heart (mind), by scar tissue of the soul, or just being occupied with the details of life.
God desires that we be devoted and consistent with our positive volition toward His Word, and He will do the rest.
